Drawings, modern art in graphite/charcoal on paper.
Phoenix Arizona
Modern art drawings in graphite, charcoal, pen&ink, brush&ink; a unique style of abstract expressionism.

Artist Statement

These drawings are from a technique of how the face goes together, where and how the background textures are added, and the dichotomy in the face with typically a profile side and a facing front side, one shaded to enhance this.

The idea or allegory is that people are multi-dimensional and full of energy so how do you draw it? It's along the concept of the greek tragedy-comedy mask, then surrounding the face with the energies of thinking and emotion somehow in a way that gets the impact to the viewer so they start experiencing the drawing in a most direct way.

Having the drawing without color seems to have the affect on people of releasing their imaginations to ponder the emotions contained in the eyes and offset faces that make up the whole face. It becomes a story they read, it takes a while, they become quiet.

By then I'm just an observer, for whatever reason these's drawings affect people, they express contrasting emotions, sexes, appearances and demand the eye move around and with it the viewer's perception changes to the new view.

As an artist this is pretty nice. It made me feel that my work was finally good enough, before this it was a piece here a piece there. This series puts that all in the past, something happened in between the last era.
